چکیده
The aim of the present research was to investigate the genotoxic potency of benzoyl peroxide (BPO), a whitener of flour and cheese, using in vitro sister chromatid exchange (SCE), chromosome aberration (CA), and micronucleus (MN) tests in human peripheral lymphocytes. Cells were exposed to 25, 50, 75, and 100 μg/mL concentrations of BPO for 24 and 48 h. BPO induced SCEs only at the highest concentration (100 μg/mL) for 48 h treatment. Furthermore, BPO induced CAs at 75 and 100 μg/mL concentrations for 24 h treatment, and at all concentrations for 48 h treatment. BPO induced CAs in a dose-dependent manner for 24 and 48 h treatment periods. Increased level of MN formation induced by BPO was only observed for the 48 h treatment period at the 2 highest concentrations (75 and 100 μg/mL). Statistically significant reductions in the proliferation index (PI) and mitotic index (MI) were only detected in cultures for the 48-h treatment period.

Introduction: Tetracyclic antidepressants-mirtazapin is one of antidepressants drug that exhibits both noradrenergic and serotonergic activity. It is commonly used to treat major depressive disorder. The genotoxic effect of mirtazapine has not been examined previously. The purpose of this study was to investigate the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of mirtazapine on human peripheral blood lymph...

In this research we have studied the effects of extremely low frequency magnetic field on the peripheral blood lymphocytes chromosomes of human in vitro and rat in vivo. By this means, we used 60 blood samples of 10 men as well as 40 rats. Of 60 human blood samples ,40 samples (in two group of 20) were selected as test groups and placed into the 2 mT and 35 Hz magnetic field. The blood samples,...
متن کاملIn vitro Valuation of Toxic Effects of Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Miller.) Seed Decoctions on Plant and Human Cells
The medicinal plants have been used since ancient times and are still utilized by the majority of the population. Hence, it is essential to investigate the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of these plants. The aim of this study was to evaluate the toxic effects of fennel seeds decoctions, traditionally used in Iran as an herbal remedy. The cytotoxicity was tested in vitro using Allium cepa L. r...
متن کاملIn vitro radioprotective effects of histamine H2 receptor antagonist against gamma-rays induced chromosomal aberrations in human lymphocytes.
Background: Radioprotective capability of histamine H2 receptor antagonists have been shown in several in vivo studies mainly using animal models. However, to verify the effectiveness of these agents in clinical applications, studies should be performed on human cells. In the present study radioprotective properties of these agents was examined in vitro on human lymphocytes using metaphase anal...
متن کاملSpatial Positioning of All 24 Chromosomes in the Lymphocytes of Six Subjects: Evidence of Reproducible Positioning and Spatial Repositioning following DNA Damage with Hydrogen Peroxide and Ultraviolet B
The higher-order organization of chromatin is well-established, with chromosomes occupying distinct positions within the interphase nucleus. Chromatin is susceptible to, and constantly assaulted by both endogenous and exogenous threats. However, the effects of DNA damage on the spatial topology of chromosomes are hitherto, poorly understood. This study investigates the organization of all 24 hu...
